About Us

The story of Alaska Family Pharmacy begins in November, 1987. Founding pharmacist Richard “Dick” Holm started North Pole Prescription Laboratory Inc in North Pole, Alaska. Over the years, the pharmacy has seen many changes, beginning as a small retail pharmacy renting a space in a professional building, to a stand alone 5000 square foot building. The extra space has given them room to grow into specialties such as compounding and specialized medication/health consultations.

Dick and his son Leif, current President/CEO, expanded their practice to include two Fairbanks pharmacies with long running histories in the Fairbanks community – Professional Pharmacy and Prescription Center. Through this merger, the pharmacies expanded the Good Neighbor Pharmacy brand into the community, offering a host of programs including Medication Synchronization, Unit Dose Bubble packing, Savings Cards, Medication Take-Back’s, and Medicare part D assistance. We are also the only group of pharmacies in the area that offer home delivery!

Now, with continued growth on the horizon, North Pole Prescription Lab, Prescription Center, and Professional Pharmacy have combined under the same name to form Alaska Family Pharmacy, a Good Neighbor Pharmacy. Here at Alaska Family Pharmacy, your health and wellness is our first priority, and helping you achieve those with outstanding customer service is our number one goal. We may have changed the name, but we haven’t changed who we are.

Leif Holm

Leif Holm, PharmD, was raised in North Pole, Alaska all his life. Upon graduating from North Pole High in 1999, Leif set out to become a pharmacist. In 2005, he graduated from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA with his PharmD. From there, he did what he always knew he would- started the long drive back to Alaska to serve the community he grew up with and loves. Along the journey, Leif met his beautiful wife Elizabeth, and their family has grown over the years to include their two daughters Natalie and Elise, and recently, their first son Ragnar. Leif took over day-to-day operations of the Alaska Family Pharmacy’s in 2011 and in 2016, purchased them from his father, Dick Holm, after Dicks’ storied 29 year run as President/CEO. Leif’s goal is to increase access to retail pharmacies in rural communities and continue to find ways to be innovate in the practice of pharmacy for the benefit of the community and its families. In his spare time, Leif is a devoted father and husband who spends his time with his family traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, and all other things Alaskan, all while catching the occasional Phoenix Suns basketball game, GO SUNS!
